The employees of REI Systems (REI) really know how to break a sweat—the company announced today that it has been selected as a finalist in
Smart CEO’s Healthiest Company Awards for the Washington, D.C. area. REI’s health-savvy environment is thanks not only to the company’s commitment to nurturing its employees, but also, and perhaps most notably, due to REI’s employee-run exercise club, Happy Feet.

In 2012, REI’s Happy Feet started out as a running club with only ten members and one activity organized by one employee. Today, Happy Feet has expanded to include more than 20 different activities—including biking, ping pong, basketball, cricket, kayaking, running (of course), and more—with hundreds of employees and friends participating. In addition to Happy Feet, REI’s company wellness program hosts several health seminars and screenings throughout the year. For example, last year, the REI Wellness Team held two on-site Flu Shot Clinics, where flu vaccines were administered to all employees with insurance cards at no cost. Both of REI’s company-initiated and employee-run programs demonstrate REI’s enthusiasm for health and wellness.

The Healthiest Company Awards ceremony, where the final winner will be revealed, will take place on September 26 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
