As Executive Chairman for REI, company co-founder Veer Bhartiya oversees regulatory compliance as well as the critical aspect of succession planning. His primary day-to-day focus is on strategy building within the company, as well as establishing and maintaining proper relationships between his team members and customers. Veer values his customers and employees above all and believes that if REI’s employees are not happy, our customers won’t be happy, either. The leadership policy of “employees first” is one of his most prized contributions to the company’s success.
In addition to starting REI systems in 1989, Veer has spent some of his 30 years of professional experience in internet/intranet applications development, network design and evaluation, network requirement analysis planning and implementation, and information systems design and implementation to the growth of the company. Though his role at REI has moved from managerial to executive over the years, Veer is still truly passionate about the company he created and has named it one of his greatest lifetime accomplishments.
Veer received his Bachelor of Science in electronic and telecommunications engineering from Allahabad University, India in 1970. In 1972, Veer won a highly selective national scholarship funded by the Government of India to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). There, he earned his Master of Science degree in electrical engineering before returning to India to begin his professional career.
Early in his career, he led teams of design engineers and technicians to customize electronic connectors (UHF, BNC, N. HN, SMA) for defense applications. Later, Veer advised India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting regarding tests and evaluation of satellite communications technologies and also developed policies associated with those technologies. Veer migrated to the United States in 1983, where he did work for EER Systems as a Program Manager for NASA’s Message Switching System until starting on his own venture – REI Systems. He has since chosen to make his home in Virginia, and became a U.S. Citizen in the late 1980s.
Outside of his work, Veer sits on the Board of Advisors for Stratford University in Fairfax, Virginia and the American College of Commerce and Technology in Falls Church, Virginia. In his free time, he enjoys playing chess, watching football and basketball, and spending time with his wife, Purnima, a public school teacher, and their two grown sons.
