Veer Bhartiya (1948-2022)

Co-Founder of REI Systems

Veer served as REI Systems’ Co-Founder, Chief Executive Officer, and Executive Chairman from REI’s founding in 1989 until 2019. Creating and growing REI was one of Veer’s greatest achievements, along with making a difference in the lives of others. While running REI, he ensured strong relationships were forged between his team and his customers. Veer valued his customers and employees above all and believed that if our employees are not happy, REI’s customers won’t be happy. His leadership policy of “employees first” was one of his most prized contributions to the company’s success.

During Veer’s tenure, he ensured relentlessly that REI delivered solutions that made an impact in the lives of others. His leadership helped REI advance NASA’s innovation, improve services to human trafficking victims, and move health grant funds faster into the hands of providers for critical patient care – just to name a few of his leadership accomplishments.

Veer received his Bachelor of Science in electronic and telecommunications engineering from Allahabad University, India in 1970. In 1972, Veer won a highly selective national scholarship funded by the Government of India to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). There, he earned his Master of Science degree in electrical engineering before returning to India to begin his professional career.

Early in his career, he led teams of design engineers and technicians to customize electronic connectors (UHF, BNC, N. HN, SMA) for defense applications. Later, Veer advised India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting regarding tests and evaluation of satellite communications technologies and also developed policies associated with those technologies. Veer migrated to the United States in 1983, where he did work for EER Systems as a Program Manager for NASA’s Message Switching System until starting on his own venture – REI Systems. He made a home in Virginia, and became a U.S. Citizen in the late 1980s.

We plan to continue Veer’s legacy at REI Systems. We also continue to recognize our Co-Founder with the “Veer Bhartiya Team Impact Award” made each year to the REI Team and project that makes the most significant beneficial impact on a public sector agency’s mission through their work with technology.

Veer’s family will also continue his legacy of supporting health care for disadvantaged persons in India.
