April 20, 2011

Team members from REI had an opportunity to be part of the Drupal Government Days Conference held in Brussels, Belgium from April 7-10, 2011. European and U.S. Government representatives, Drupal developers, and the business community attended the conference to collaborate and exchange ideas on improving and supporting government processes by leveraging open source software.

This was a perfect venue to "spread the word" about REI in the Drupal and open source communities.  REI has created several high profile sites for U.S. government, including data.gov, usaspending.gov and the recently open sourced IT Dashboard.  The European government is now moving into the direction of building similar sites, which promote open government, transparency, and data accessibility.

We showcased our Dashboarding capability at the conference – sharing our knowledge, experiences and lessons learned. Rahul and Martin attended on behalf of REI and provided a presentation on how REI’s dashboards have promoted transparency and accountability within the U.S. government. The presentation was very well received by the attendees, and it was a tremendous experience for our team.

Below is a picture of the founder of Drupal, Dries Buytaert during his keynote speech.  As you can see on the screen in the background, he is talking about the IT Dashboard – developed by REI and recently open sourced by OMB.
