REI’s NASA SBIR Team provided key evidence to the US Attorney’s Office in their fraud case against the directors of an SBIR awardee company.  The defendants were accused of submitting fraudulent contract proposals and deliverables to NASA and the Air Force in connection with over $3 million in government contracts, often using work performed by students at the University of Florida (where one of the defendants was a professor) without the students’ knowledge or consent.

One of the key pieces of evidence in the case was a listing of the IP addresses from which the proposal and contract documents were submitted.  REI was able to provide this information, going back almost 10 years, to the NASA Office of the Inspector General.  Both defendants were convicted on multiple counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and face a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment on each count.

After the trial, the US Attorney for the case praised the "tremendous efforts of the NASA Office of Inspector General" in preparing evidence for the trial.  REI played a key part in these preparations.
