Effective January 18th, 2018, the General Services Administration (GSA) will implement revisions to Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Section 508 requires the development, procurement, maintenance, and use of electronic and information technology by and for Federal Government to be usable by individuals with disabilities–both Federal employees and members of the public seeking information or services from the Federal Government. The refresh expands the application of Section 508 to broaden accessibility standards across manufacturers, devices, software, and products.
REI Systems delivers solutions to Government that are required to meet the standards in Section 508. REI’s Principal Web Designer Victor Carlstrom comments on the 2018 refresh:
“We should always be designing with an eye towards 508. Its important that those with disabilities be able to interact with sites we create and be able to gather the same information as anyone else.”
